About the Rubbish Film Festival

The Rubbish Film Festival is an award-winning environmental media initiative for Transition Year students, inviting them to explore vital sustainability issues by creating impactful one-minute films. With a hands-on, creative approach, the festival empowers young people to become digital storytellers and changemakers.

We are now recruiting a network of freelance workshop facilitators to deliver creative media sessions in schools in various regions for our 2025–2026 program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned workshops in schools (primarily TY students)

  • Facilitate student-led development of one-minute environmental films

  • Guide students in scripting, filming, and basic editing using mobile devices and apps

  • Encourage creative expression and environmental thinking through digital storytelling

  • Represent the festival professionally in school and community settings

  • Provide light admin/documentation on sessions (through Notion & Slack)

Ideal Candidate Profile

We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals with:

  • Experience teaching, facilitating or mentoring young people (especially aged 15–17)

  • Practical skills in digital media, video production, or creative arts

  • Passion for climate action, environmental education or sustainability

  • Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and adapt sessions on the ground

  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel within their region

  • Flexibility to work 3–4 days/week during school terms

Bonus points for:

  • Familiarity with TY programmes or Green-Schools

  • Garda Vetting (or willingness to be vetted)

  • Experience using CapCut, iMovie, or similar tools
