About the Rubbish Film Festival


The Rubbish Film Festival is an award-winning environmental media initiative for Transition Year students, inviting them to explore vital sustainability issues by creating impactful one-minute films. With a hands-on, creative approach, the festival empowers young people to become digital storytellers and changemakers.

We are now recruiting freelance workshop facilitators to deliver creative media sessions in schools in southern regions for our 2026–2027 program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned workshops in schools (primarily TY students).

  • Facilitate student-led development of one-minute environmental films.

  • Guide students in scripting, filming, and basic editing using mobile devices and apps.

  • Encourage creative expression and environmental thinking through digital storytelling.

  • Represent the festival professionally in school and community settings.

  • Provide light admin/documentation on sessions (through Notion & Slack).

Ideal Candidate Profile


We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals with:

  • Experience teaching, facilitating, or mentoring young people (especially aged 15–17)

  • Practical skills in digital media, video production, or creative arts
    Passion for climate action, environmental education, or sustainability

  • Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and adapt sessions on the ground

  • Full driving licence, own transport and willingness to travel within their region
    Flexibility to work 3–4 days/week during school terms

Desirable but Not Essential

  • Familiarity with TY programmes or Green-Schools

  • Garda Vetting (or willingness to be vetted)

  • Experience using CapCut, iMovie, or similar tools
